Solar Power House - How To Live Off-Grid

Natural resources are precious at the same time scarce these days. For this reason, these days most people are laying a lot of stress on conservation. The best place to start this would be at home. Now, builders have realized this fact and home owners prefer going in for eco-friendly homes. This trend is especially prevalent when it comes to independent homes such as luxury villas. Since the world population is going up rapidly it has become all the more important to look at some or the other option like this. However, the best part about these homes is the fact that it would be cost saving at the same time it will help you save on your energy bills as well.

The single biggest heat sink or energy robber in a home is the windows. There are several things to consider here. First and foremost is the total square footage of windows. I've never had someone come to me and say "Ronnie build me a home that's dark and doesn't have many windows." Always it goes like this,"I want a home that is light and airy." Then of course the buyer covers all of the windows with blinds, shades, shutters, drapes, curtains, or heaven forbid foil and seldom opens them due to excessive heat, cold or allergens in the air.

When Sustainable Homes you use the materials it should help improve indoor air quality. For this to be possible, the material should be non-carcinogenic, low and non-toxic. It should also have remarkably low emission of Volatile Organic Compounds or should also produce less of them.

As with many other natural materials, the inherent structure and oils found in jute make it resistant to fire damage. Fire can light it, but it won't stay lit for long. Jute matting and a jute carpet in homes may help to stop the spread of fires that start accidentally.

On a 2010 American Idol show, an older gentleman (too old to qualify) auditioned with a song he wrote himself: Pants on the Ground (link to video). Of course, it's not unusual for Idol wannabes to sing original songs, but this song exemplified a compelling message. As a silly, yet challenging message to young men who wear their pants too low, General Larry Platt, a 62-year-old veteran from Georgia created an overnight sensation. It's not because the song is good, or because Larry could sing or dance well, those are the product; the real sensation was that Larry said something everyone wanted to hear.

There may be a variety of reasons why you want new windows for your house. It may be that they are just old, and you want ones to brighten up your home, and make it more modern, or give your house a fresher look. It might be that your existing windows are all right, but you can't clean them properly and want ones that turnaround. You might have ones that open and you would rather have some that don't open at all; that are just fixed windows. The reasons for getting fresh windows are endless.

Finally, many prefab homes are greener simply because they are simpler. Building a home with lots of corners can take lots of extra materials and labor. If you want to create a green home, one way to do it is to create a simple, ecofriendly traditionally styled home. For the ultimate green design, try a ranch home that doesn't cost nearly as much energy to heat and cool with only one layer to it.

Space heaters are used to heat a specific room or enclosed area, not the whole house. They are portable and can be moved from room to room, depending on where you need more heat. These heaters come in gas, electric and oil powered varieties but should be used with caution. Risks involved with using this type of heating system is fire hazard and carbon monoxide poisoning from gas and kerosene space heaters.
